Diff. Pre-Algebra, Pre-Algebra & Math 7
Welcome to math class. I am looking forward to a year full of new experiences with each of you. My classroom is a place where all students are invited to learn. In order for our year to be a successful one, I have established some class expectations for each of you to follow.
WHAT I EXPECT OF MY STUDENTS:
1. Come to class and be in your seat with all materials at the scheduled start time.
2. Do NOT bring nuisance items to class.
3. Have respect for yourself, others and the classroom.
4. Be responsible for your own learning. (Ask questions if you are confused!)
5. Use the time that is given to you in class wisely.
6. Try your hardest at all times.
CLASSROOM NEEDS:
Each student needs to bring each of the following items to class every day:
1. Your covered textbook
2. Your 3-ring binder (explained later)
3. A blue or black pen
4. A pencil
5. A LOT of LOOSE-LEAF paper
6. Your assignment (if one was assigned)
Again, this classroom is a place where all students are invited to learn. If you do not do what is expected of you, you are making the choice to face consequences.
CONSEQUENCES:
1. If you do not arrive to class on time, you will be marked tardy, and you will be
expected to come in after school. Too many tardies will result in a referral.
2. If you are disruptive during class, you may be removed from the classroom and will
be expected to come in after school.
3. If you are distracting yourself or others with nuisance items, they will be taken from
you and returned to your parent(s) and/or guardian(s) at their request.
4. If you do not bring all required materials to class, expect to come in after school.
WHAT MY STUDENTS CAN EXPECT OF ME:
1. I will work to help you reach your individual and class goals throughout the year.
2. I will be available to help you when you have questions.
3. I will strive to earn your respect and will give you respect in return.
4. I will try my hardest to see that you are successful.
GRADING SYSTEM:
You will be graded throughout this course based on the number of points that you earn in class. The following shows you the grading scale we will use for this course:
95 - 100 = A+*
90 - 94 = A
85 - 89 = B+
80 - 84 = B
75 - 79 = C+
70 - 74 = C
65 - 69 = D+
60 - 64 = D
0 - 59 = F
* Since an A+ is not an option for report cards, if a student ends up with an A+, it will
only show up as an A on the report card.
only show up as an A on the report card.
DAILY ASSIGNMENTS (10% of a student’s overall grade):
These involve work that is done in class and/or at home that is graded. Students will be expected to complete all assignments and turn them in on time. Assignments will be due at the beginning of class. Assignments that are not turned in at that point will be considered late. Late assignments must still be turned in to Mr. Czarnick to receive any credit for the assignment, but the assignment’s score will be reduced.
POINT SYSTEM FOR DAILY ASSIGNMENTS:
- Assignment is completed and the student received ABOVE an 80% = 5 points
- Assignment is completed and the student received BETWEEN 60% - 80% = 4 points
- Assignment is completed and the student received BELOW a 60% = 3 points
** Students may REDO the missed problems on assignments that they received 4 or 3
points on. If a student chooses to do this and achieves a grade of 80% or higher on
the redo, they will receive more credit for that assignment, as long as the original
assignment was not turned in late.
- Assignment is late, partially completed, or NOT turned in = 2, 1 or 0 points
- Assignment is completed and the student received BETWEEN 60% - 80% = 4 points
- Assignment is completed and the student received BELOW a 60% = 3 points
** Students may REDO the missed problems on assignments that they received 4 or 3
points on. If a student chooses to do this and achieves a grade of 80% or higher on
the redo, they will receive more credit for that assignment, as long as the original
assignment was not turned in late.
- Assignment is late, partially completed, or NOT turned in = 2, 1 or 0 points
QUIZZES (30% of a student’s overall grade):
Students should expect to have a quiz every day that will be over the previous day’s class notes, vocabulary and/or homework. I will always let the students know whether or not they will be having a quiz at least a day in advance. A typical quiz will be worth 15-30 points.
TESTS (60% of a student’s overall grade):
Tests will be given at the end of every chapter and will include the material from that chapter’s class notes, vocabulary, daily assignments and/or quizzes. I will always let the students know when they will be given a chapter test a few days in advance. A typical test will be worth 80-100 points and will be graded the same way quizzes are graded. (Refer back to quizzes section for the point system that will be used on tests.)
* If a student does not pass an objective on a test, they have the chance to RETAKE THAT part
of the test over, but NOT the entire test. Retaking a test is entirely up to the STUDENT. I
will NOT force any student to retake a test, but I will recommend it.
of the test over, but NOT the entire test. Retaking a test is entirely up to the STUDENT. I
will NOT force any student to retake a test, but I will recommend it.
3-RING BINDER:
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that each student brings a 3-ring binder to keep all notes, daily assignments and quizzes in. The binder itself is considered an assignment, and as a whole, will be graded as the semester goes on. So, I will hold each student responsible for keeping his or her binder organized.
Please bring a 3-ring binder to class AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so that you do not get behind in your organization of the binder. If you are unable to bring a binder to class, please let me know!
CALCULATORS:
A calculator is NOT required! We will use calculators as little as possible. However, a student may want to have his or her own calculator to use throughout the school year. I will provide students with calculators that they can use while IN CLASS if calculators are to be used.
MAKE-UP WORK AND ABSENCES:
If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to see me about the work that you missed. You will have the same amount of time as you were absent to make up the assignments, quizzes, and/or tests that you missed while you were absent. If the work is not completed within that time, it will be considered late. If you miss a quiz or an exam and it is excused, then you will take a make-up exam. You will need to set up a time with Mr. Czarnick for the make-up quiz or exam.
EXTRA CREDIT:
There will be NO formal extra credit offered in this course. There MAY be bonus problems/questions on quizzes and/or tests if extra credit is to be given.
PASSES:
Each student is expected to come to class with all of the required materials every day, but there will be days when a student may have to leave the classroom for a number of reasons. All students in my class will be allowed to leave the classroom a total of TEN TIMES during a SEMESTER by using a pass that is given to them at the beginning of each semester. The pass can be used to retrieve a book or assignment, get a drink, use the restroom, go to their locker, or go to the nurse. If the student uses up all ten passes and they need to leave the classroom, they may do so, but will then be expected to come in after school. Students should only leave the classroom if they absolutely have to, so USE YOUR PASSES WISELY!!!
